Today, Thursday the 23rd of March 2017, was a very important day for the Swedish Fashion Industry. Today the industry came together and signed the Swedish Fashion Ethical Charter.
The charter is a new policy stating common values and guidelines regarding body image, diversity and safety issues within the fashion industry. The policy is unique in that it caters to the entire industry and all the positions and disciplines that represent the industry; designs, trademarks, modeling agencies, casting agents, advertising buyers, stylists, marketing departments, advertising agencies, photographers, industry associations and the media. The initiative for Swedish Fashion Ethical Charter comes from the Swedish Fashion Council and the Association of Swedish Fashion Brands together with ELLE and the model agency MIKAS.

Already 53 of the largest fashion companies in Sweden have signed the policy, including Filippa K, J. Lindeberg, House of Dagmar and BACK. Anyone can support The Swedish Fashion Ethical Charter by signing this policy. The goal is to establish a broad coalition of key stakeholders and companies. We’ve seen too many malnourished models on the runway. Maybe now there will be a change.
